The has dismissed one of its personnel after he was found guilty of prolonged absence from duty, describing the act as a serious breach of military discipline.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Navy confirmed that the dismissed rating, identified as SMUW Bello M (MX14540), had been absent without official leave for a staggering 1,346 days — nearly four years.
According to the naval authorities, the extended unauthorised absence constitutes desertion under military regulations, warranting his immediate removal from service.
“The rating was found culpable of desertion from naval service after an absence without official leave for 1346 days,” the statement read.
The Navy stressed that such conduct undermines the integrity and operational efficiency of the armed forces, adding that strict disciplinary measures are necessary to maintain order within its ranks.
In a stern warning to the public, the Navy declared that Bello is no longer a member of the service and should not be treated as such under any circumstances.
“Anyone who interacts with him as a naval personnel does so at their own risk,” the statement cautioned.
Authorities also urged individuals, organisations, and institutions to be vigilant and avoid engaging with the dismissed individual under the assumption that he still represents the Nigerian Navy.
