A prominent broadcaster and media entrepreneur, Osaro Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki, popularly known as Don Pedro, has filed a ₦500 million lawsuit over an alleged abduction and public humiliation in Benin City.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court, names several defendants including the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Department of State Services (DSS), as well as Benin-based figures Osazee Adun, also known as “Kabaka,” and Osamede Eriyo, popularly called “Nomoless.”
Legal representation for Obaseki is being handled by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN).
Allegations of Abduction and ‘Shame Parade’
According to court documents, the incident allegedly occurred on December 28, 2025, when Obaseki was reportedly seized by armed men who claimed to be acting on orders from the Oba’s Palace—a claim later denied by the Benin Traditional Council.
He alleged that he was physically assaulted, stripped nearly naked, and paraded through major streets in what has been described as a degrading “shame procession.”
The disturbing incident was reportedly recorded and circulated widely on social media, causing what his legal team described as “severe psychological trauma and reputational damage.”
Constitutional Rights Violation
The lawsuit argues that the actions of the defendants violated fundamental rights guaranteed under Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, including the right to life, dignity, personal liberty, and privacy.
Obaseki is seeking:
- ₦500 million in damages for emotional and physical distress
- A court order compelling investigation and prosecution of those involved
- A public apology in national newspapers
- An injunction to prevent further harassment
Call for Justice, Not Revenge
Despite the gravity of the incident, Obaseki stated that his legal action is aimed at ensuring accountability and protecting citizens’ rights, rather than seeking revenge.
He acknowledged the Benin Traditional Council’s denial of involvement but insisted that individuals who allegedly used the palace’s name to carry out the act must face justice.
“This case is about upholding the rule of law and ensuring no Nigerian is subjected to such degrading treatment,” his legal team stated.
A hearing date is expected to be announced soon by the court.
