Kaduna State’s unending battle with insecurity took another grim turn on Tuesday night as armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Tudun Wadan Rido in Chikun Local Government Area, killing two residents and leaving several others injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, firing sporadically and throwing the village into panic. Residents who sustained serious injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital as the gunmen fled into the night.
A community source described the scene as chaotic, recounting how families scrambled for safety during the onslaught. As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
This latest attack adds to rising concerns in Kaduna, where rural communities continue to suffer repeated assaults from criminal gangs.
Just last Wednesday, anxiety deepened across the state following the abduction of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezema of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rumi, under the Catholic Diocese of Zaria. The priest was taken from his residence late Tuesday night.
In a statement signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Isek Augustine, the Church expressed deep regret over the kidnapping, describing it as a distressing development.
“We regret to officially announce the abduction of our Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezema, in his residence at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rumi, on Tuesday 2nd December, 2025 around 11:30 p.m.,” the Diocese said.
The Church has urged the public to support ongoing efforts to secure the priest’s safe release while calling on security agencies to intensify action.
The back-to-back incidents underscore the worsening vulnerability of communities across Kaduna State amid persistent security threats.
