The (JAMB) has released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while confirming the arrest of two candidates and one parent over alleged examination fraud involving artificial intelligence.
In a statement issued by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the board disclosed that a total of 632,788 candidates who sat for the examination on Thursday, April 16, have had their results released and are now available for checking.
However, the examination body noted that while candidates can access their scores, the option to print the results has not yet been activated.
JAMB also raised serious concerns over attempts by individuals to manipulate examination results using AI and other electronic methods. According to the board, the suspects currently in custody were involved in falsifying results through digital means.
“The Board treats such misconduct with the utmost seriousness,” the statement said, warning that any candidate found guilty of such acts would face full legal consequences.
The 2026 UTME, which began across about 966 computer-based test centres nationwide, is expected to accommodate approximately 2.2 million candidates, making it one of the largest entrance examinations in Nigeria.
The development highlights growing challenges posed by technology-driven malpractice in public examinations, as authorities grapple with new forms of digital fraud.
JAMB assured that it is closely monitoring the exercise and will continue releasing results in batches as the nationwide examination progresses.
The examination has already attracted attention due to logistical complaints from candidates assigned to distant centres, and the emergence of AI-related fraud allegations has added further concern over the integrity of the process.
