ABUJA, Nigeria — A House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) says it has found that the signature on the letter appointing Adeniyi Adeyemi as the council’s Director-General differs from authentic signatures used by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on other official government documents.
The disclosure was made during the committee’s investigative session by committee member, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, who stated that lawmakers examined nine official letters issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff and found the signatures to be consistent across all of them—except the appointment letter presented by Adeyemi.
According to Gagdi, the verified documents included official correspondence addressed to key government institutions such as the National Security Adviser, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police.
He noted that the committee’s findings strongly suggest the appointment letter used to install Adeyemi as Director-General of the PFIPC was forged.
The investigation is focused on determining whether government institutions relied on falsified documents in recognizing the council and whether public officials were misled by forged correspondence allegedly originating from the Office of the Chief of Staff.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, also appeared before the committee as part of the ongoing probe.
The controversy intensified after the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, testified that Adeyemi allegedly intercepted an official response from the Office of the Accountant-General that could have exposed the alleged forgery at an earlier stage.
Ogunjimi explained that in November 2024, the Treasury received what appeared to be an official request from the State House seeking the creation of an administrative code for the PFIPC. Believing the request was genuine, the office processed it and issued the required code. However, he alleged that the official response sent back to the State House was intercepted by Adeyemi before it reached its intended destination.
The PFIPC has come under intense public scrutiny following allegations that forged presidential documents were used to secure official recognition and a budgetary allocation of ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
Adeyemi, who has maintained that his appointment was approved by the Presidency, was arrested by operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Osun State on July 14, 2026, over allegations linked to the establishment and operations of the council.
Meanwhile, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila has consistently denied signing any appointment letter for Adeyemi, insisting that the document attributed to him is not authentic.
