Gunmen Strike Again in Kogi: Passengers Kidnapped, Bus Driver Shot in Deadly Highway Ambush

Fresh fears have gripped residents and travellers in Kogi State following a violent ambush by suspected bandits along the Ijowa–Ijagbe road in Mopamuro Local Government Area.

SUNTV Global Channel gathered from local sources, including SaharaReporters, that the attack occurred on Friday evening when heavily armed assailants reportedly emerged from nearby bushes and intercepted a commercial passenger bus travelling through the axis.

Witness accounts indicate that the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, forcing the vehicle to a halt before abducting an unspecified number of passengers.

During the chaos, the driver of the bus was reportedly shot at close range after attempting to escape from the attackers. He sustained severe gunshot injuries and was rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving emergency treatment.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to confirm the identities or number of those abducted, while families of the victims are said to be anxiously seeking information and possible contact with the kidnappers.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command had not released a formal statement regarding the incident at press time.

Security concerns continue to mount in the area, with residents calling for urgent deployment of security forces to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of commuters along the route.
