SUNTV Global Channel, February 14, 2026 – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists across Nigeria to avoid drunk and reckless driving during Valentine’s Day celebrations. The Corps stressed that violators would face strict enforcement measures.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed revealed that all operational and educational tools have been deployed nationwide to ensure the safety of road users during the festive period. “The spirit of celebration must not translate into lawlessness on our highways,” Mohammed said.
In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, he explained that the FRSC has intensified patrols across major highways, city centres, and known black spots to deter traffic violations commonly associated with celebrations.
Corps Marshal Mohammed also directed Commanding Officers to ensure massive deployment of officers for enhanced visibility, traffic control, and strict enforcement of all traffic regulations. Special patrols, breathalyzers, and radar guns have been activated to proactively detect and stop drunk drivers, preventing avoidable accidents.
He urged motorists to plan their movements responsibly, avoid consuming alcohol before driving, and adhere strictly to speed limits. Passengers were also encouraged to speak up if they notice dangerous driving behaviors.
“Safety is a shared responsibility,” Mohammed said, reaffirming the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives and property. “We appeal to all road users to cooperate with our personnel and help ensure a safe Valentine’s Day for everyone.”
