Armed bandits have launched another deadly attack on Shuwaki community in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing one resident, injuring at least seven others, and abducting 31 people, including women and infants.
The attack reportedly occurred on Saturday night and is the latest in a series of violent raids that have continued to terrorise communities in the area, forcing many residents to flee their homes due to persistent kidnappings, killings and cattle rustling.
According to a former Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Aminu Magaji, the attackers stormed the community between 9:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., operating for nearly two hours before fleeing with dozens of victims, livestock and other valuables.
Magaji disclosed that one of the kidnapped women was later abandoned near Doma Village after becoming too weak to continue the journey into the forest, while 31 other victims remain in captivity. He added that most of those abducted are women, including mothers carrying infants.
He further revealed that security agencies, including the police, military and members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, responded after receiving distress calls but were unable to stop the attackers or rescue the kidnapped victims.
Residents also reported that the gunmen looted mobile phones and livestock before escaping. As of the time of this report, no ransom demand had reportedly been made.
Community leaders warned that repeated attacks in Bakori have displaced several families, disrupted farming activities and left many residents living in fear.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned the killing of a former councillor, Daniel Danjuma Chong, during a separate late-night attack in Riyom Local Government Area.
The association alleged that suspected armed attackers invaded Torok community, killing the former councillor before fleeing. It called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to arrest those responsible and strengthen efforts to curb rising insecurity in the region.
