The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed online claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 1,219 votes at Kuroko Health Centre polling unit in Yangoji Ward, Kwali Area Council, during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
INEC stated that the allegation arose from a simple clerical error by the presiding officer and was immediately investigated to ensure the official results were accurate.
According to the commission, the presiding officer recounted the ballots and initially recorded 122 votes for APC. During a recount, she realized the correct figure was 121 votes and adjusted both the numerical and written entries accordingly. The official result, signed by party agents and uploaded from the polling unit, recorded 121 votes, not 1,219 as alleged.
“The BVAS and IReV electronic systems automatically flag inconsistencies and prevent over-voting. An entry of 1,219 votes would have been instantly rejected,” INEC explained, reassuring the public that the commission’s technology safeguards the integrity of the results.
The commission added that the correct figure of 121 votes was consistently reflected at all collation stages, including the Ward and Area Council levels. The IReV portal, which mirrors results uploaded directly from polling units, continues to serve as a transparent tool for voters and stakeholders.
INEC urged the public to disregard misleading online claims, emphasizing that the official result remains 121 votes for APC at the Kwali polling unit.
