EXCLUSIVE: Detained Cleric Kabara Alleges Political Persecution, Death Sentence Linked to Refusal to Become “Iran‑Style Ayatollah”

SUNTV Global Channel | March 27, 2026

Abduljabbar Sheikh Nasir Kabara, currently detained at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja, has submitted a detailed petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, alleging political persecution, judicial misconduct, and efforts to block his appeals. Kabara claims that his 2022 death sentence by an Upper Sharia Court in Kano was part of a broader scheme to transform him into a revolutionary figure similar to Ayatollah Khomeini—an offer he refused.

In his letter dated March 26, 2026, Kabara accused the judiciary and government authorities of colluding against him, citing a “deeply compromised judicial process” and violations of his rights. He claimed that both his initial complaint to the Court of Appeal in February 2026 and a follow-up in March received no response. Kabara insists that the nearly 5,000-page record of his case demonstrates the trial was predetermined, unfair, and designed to punish him despite his innocence.

Kabara also alleged systematic obstruction of his appeals, including jurisdictional manipulation and misrepresentation of filing dates, and accused government lawyers of attempting to destroy his case records. He linked these actions to a larger political conspiracy, claiming that former Minister of Education Adamu Adamu orchestrated schemes to coerce him, including bribery, deception, and pressure to participate in activities he deemed dangerous.

The cleric recounted incidents involving the Iranian Ambassador and envoys in Nigeria and Tehran, where he was allegedly urged to assume a role akin to a revolutionary Ayatollah. Kabara said he rejected all attempts, returned to Nigeria immediately, and survived a seven-day armed assault on his home and mosque by security forces.

Kabara’s petition also highlights disputes over his institutions and claims of obstruction by prison authorities and government officials, emphasizing that the Chief Justice’s intervention is his last hope for justice.
