Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has questioned how Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), was able to obtain apparent official recognition within government circles despite allegations that he falsely presented himself as the head of the organisation.
Speaking during Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Chidoka said the controversy raises serious concerns about the verification procedures adopted by government institutions that reportedly received and acted on documents presented by Adeyemi.
According to the former minister, attention should not only focus on the suspect but also on the public institutions that allegedly processed his documents without carrying out proper verification.
Chidoka questioned whether Adeyemi’s alleged appointment letter was authenticated before government offices acted on requests linked to it, stressing that officials had a responsibility to verify the legitimacy of such documents before granting recognition or processing official correspondence.
He further argued that the incident points to wider institutional weaknesses and lamented what he described as a growing culture where individuals who insist on due process or challenge irregularities are often discouraged.
The comments come amid ongoing investigations into Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an organisation whose legitimacy has been widely questioned.
The case has attracted national attention following allegations of forgery, fraud, and impersonation against Adeyemi.
A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge. He was subsequently arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Osun State and is currently undergoing investigation.
The controversy has sparked renewed debate over the effectiveness of verification processes within government institutions and whether adequate checks were carried out before official engagements involving the alleged council.
