The writer also highlighted the efforts of Congolese healthcare workers and international organisations working on the ground, including the World Health Organization and Médecins Sans Frontières, calling for greater funding, medical support and sustained international attention.
The article urged the international community to increase its support for affected communities and healthcare workers as efforts continue to contain the Ebola outbreak.
It concluded with a broader appeal for equal urgency in responding to deadly disease outbreaks, regardless of where they occur or which populations are most affected.
