Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old suspected female arms courier and foiled an ammunition supply operation believed to be fueling bandit activities in northern Nigeria.
The suspect, Nafisa Usman, was apprehended at a busy motor park in Kano while allegedly transporting about 200 rounds of ammunition concealed for delivery.
According to security sources, the ammunition was traced to Lafia and was being transported to Kankara, an area widely known for persistent bandit attacks.
“She was intercepted before completing the delivery meant for bandits operating within the Kankara forest,” an intelligence source disclosed.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, said to be a native of Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area, had allegedly been involved in the illegal arms trade for about two months.
During interrogation, Usman reportedly confessed that the ammunition was supplied by an individual identified as “Teso,” who is alleged to be working in collaboration with a military operative based in Lafia.
Further findings indicate that she had facilitated arms transactions worth over ₦5 million, using Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano as a key transit point for moving supplies into Katsina State.
Authorities also disclosed that the weapons were intended for a notorious bandit leader, identified as Mallam Haruna, alongside other criminal elements known as Buba and Abu, all believed to be operating within the Kankara forest axis.
The suspect reportedly revealed she was recruited into the network by a Kano-based livestock trader named Sulaiman.
