The Resident Pastor of Living Faith Church, Azugwu (LFC), Isah Lazarus Alkali, has called on Christians to embrace discipline as a key requirement for success in life and in their relationship with God.
Delivering a sermon titled “Understanding the Demands of Success (Part 3)” on Sunday, the cleric emphasized that discipline must come before success and urged believers to take responsibility for managing their lives and resources wisely.
According to him, God will not come down from heaven to make anyone successful if the individual lacks discipline.
“You must learn to manage yourself at your present level. Cut your coat according to your size,” Pastor Alkali told the congregation.
He illustrated his point with a financial example, explaining that a person earning a salary of ₦85,000 but spending more than that amount cannot make meaningful progress in life.
“Enjoyment is good, but you must first check yourself before going into it. If you spend more than you earn, you cannot go far,” he said.
Reading from the Bible in First Epistle to the Corinthians 6:12, the pastor explained that discipline teaches believers to obey authority and follow God’s instructions. He stressed that serving God is not a plea but a command that requires obedience.
He also challenged members of the congregation to reflect on their spiritual lives, asking: “Who will be found worthy on the day the Lord returns? Is your life right with God?”
Pastor Alkali further reminded worshippers that every soul ultimately belongs somewhere and that individuals must decide whether they stand with God or the devil.
Sharing a personal story to highlight the unpredictability of life, the cleric recounted how a friend and his mother were reportedly killed on their farm by suspected Fulani attackers just a day earlier, stressing the importance of being spiritually prepared at all times.
Quoting Book of Job 36:11, he noted that those who obey and serve God will spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasure. He also cited Book of Proverbs 9:9, encouraging believers to remain focused in their journey toward success.
The pastor warned that spirituality alone does not automatically prevent people from falling into sins such as fornication and other immoral acts, stressing that discipline remains essential in living a righteous life.
“It is not compulsory to serve God,” he said, “but if you choose not to walk with Him, you risk your life and destiny.”
He concluded by reminding the congregation that success and victory often come after trials, noting that every individual must face tests and battles before being declared a winner.
