Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as disorganised and power-driven.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC accused the ADC of being an “assembly of confused, desperate and power-hungry politicians,” blaming the opposition party for its ongoing internal crisis.
The ruling party specifically criticised the factional leadership involving David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, alleging that their emergence violated the party’s constitution and triggered instability within the ADC.
According to the APC, INEC’s decision to remove the names of the factional leaders from its official portal was lawful and justified, insisting it aligns with democratic principles and electoral guidelines.
“The ADC is a party that never was… it was designed to implode,” the statement said, dismissing claims by the opposition that the APC was behind its internal troubles.
The party further argued that a political organisation unable to manage its internal affairs cannot be trusted with national leadership, adding that the ADC has failed to present credible policy alternatives to Nigerians.
Reaffirming its stance, the APC stated that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on implementing its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and strengthening democratic institutions.
