Residents of several communities in Kwara State have been thrown into fear and uncertainty following coordinated attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits who reportedly kidnapped scores of people and killed at least one resident during separate raids.
According to reports, the attacks occurred simultaneously in Gaa-Oke Abba and Gaa-Alla communities in Isin Local Government Area, as well as Famole community in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Sources revealed that armed assailants stormed the affected communities, abducting several residents. In Gaa-Alla, at least two persons were reportedly kidnapped, while the exact number of victims taken from Gaa-Oke Abba remains unclear as families continue to account for missing relatives.
In Famole community, one resident was reportedly killed following a gun battle between the attackers and local defenders.
The latest attacks have heightened concerns over the worsening security situation across parts of Kwara State, where residents have faced increasing cases of kidnappings and violent crimes in recent months.
Meanwhile, a tragic development has emerged regarding a traditional ruler from Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government Area. Reports indicate that the monarch may have died in captivity despite the payment of a substantial ransom by members of his community.
Sources claim that the traditional ruler was abducted about a month ago and that negotiations with his captors led to the payment of ₦21 million, two new motorcycles, and a jerrycan of petrol in an effort to secure his freedom.
However, according to information reportedly provided by a recently released kidnapping victim, the monarch was not released and is believed to have died while in captivity.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in Kwara State had not issued an official statement regarding the coordinated attacks or the reported death of the traditional ruler.
The incidents have once again raised concerns about insecurity in several parts of Nigeria, particularly in rural communities vulnerable to banditry and kidnapping activities.
