The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during a large-scale intelligence-led operation targeting suspected criminal hideouts, brothels, and illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.
The coordinated raid, carried out on Saturday, formed part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat crime, dismantle criminal networks, and improve public safety across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations following credible intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID), which identified several locations allegedly linked to criminal activities.
During the operation, police officers arrested 102 male and 100 female suspects for offences ranging from operating illegal brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related crimes.
In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers impounded 25 vehicles, including five cars, 10 tricycles, and 10 motorcycles, for violating traffic regulations, the state’s restrictions on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, stating that similar operations would continue across Delta State to deny criminal elements safe havens.
He assured residents that the police would intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement operations to strengthen security and maintain law and order.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could help prevent crime and facilitate the arrest of offenders.
Authorities say the latest operation underscores the Delta State Police Command’s determination to sustain its crackdown on criminal activities while ensuring a safer environment for residents and businesses across the state.
