A Nigerian military combat drone has crashed in the Kontagora forest area of Niger State, sparking fresh concerns over aerial surveillance and combat operations in the North-Central region of the country.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the unmanned aerial vehicle went down on Friday under circumstances that remain unclear. A photograph obtained shows the drone lying wrecked deep inside the forest. Notably, the aircraft did not explode after crashing.
As of the time of this report, it remains uncertain where the drone was launched from, while efforts to independently verify operational details surrounding the incident have so far been unsuccessful.
Neither the Nigerian military nor the Niger State Government has issued an official statement on the crash, leaving the public with unanswered questions about the mission, possible technical failure, or security implications of the incident.
Related Concerns Over Foreign Military Claims
The development comes amid earlier reports of a controversial video circulating online, showing men suspected to be herdsmen handling what they claimed were fragments of a bomb allegedly dropped by the United States military on Christmas Day in Jabo community, Sokoto State.
In the video obtained by SUNTV Global Channel, the men—speaking in Hausa—were seen casually rolling and playing with the metallic object while mocking the United States and questioning the effectiveness of American military power.
One of the voices in the video was heard urging others to “show their strength,” while praying that the object would not explode.
“Show your strength, my people. I am praying for you that this fragment will not explode by God’s grace,” one voice said.
The men further mocked both foreign and local armed forces, boasting that no bomb, missile, or even nuclear weapon could succeed on Nigerian soil.
“Army, you are a disgrace. We Nigerians supersede you. Nothing can defeat us except God’s wish,” another voice declared.
Silence Raises Security Questions
The silence from relevant authorities following both incidents has raised public concern, particularly over the safety, coordination, and effectiveness of military operations in regions battling insecurity.
SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as official responses emerge.
