Véron Mosengo-Omba has officially resigned from his role as Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, bringing an end to a distinguished career in international football administration spanning over three decades.
In a statement released from Cairo, Mosengo-Omba said his decision was driven by a desire to focus on personal projects after years of service promoting football as a tool for unity and development.
He noted that his resignation comes after clearing allegations that had trailed his tenure, adding that he leaves the organization with “peace of mind” and pride in the progress achieved under his leadership.
Mosengo-Omba also expressed gratitude to CAF President Patrice Motsepe and stakeholders across African football for their support.AFCON 2025 Controversy Deepens
His resignation comes amid the ongoing dispute over the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF had controversially overturned Senegal’s 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 win following a protest-induced walk-off by Senegalese players.
Despite the ruling, Senegal’s national team publicly paraded the trophy in Paris, insisting they remain the rightful African champions.
Head coach Pape Thiaw reaffirmed the team’s stance, stating that the title was fairly won on the pitch and that the squad remains focused on future competitions, including the upcoming World Cup.
Meanwhile, Morocco—now officially recognised as champions by CAF—have chosen to move forward, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou downplaying the controversy.
Senegal has since filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, keeping the dispute alive within global football circles.
