BREAKING: Zulum Raises Alarm Over Suicide Bomb Threat in Maiduguri During Eid

Residents of Maiduguri have been placed on high alert after Babagana Umara Zulum warned of a possible suicide bomb attack during Eid celebrations.

The Borno State Governor disclosed that intelligence reports indicate two suspected suicide bombers are currently within the city, allegedly planning to carry out attacks.

“We have intelligence that there are two suicide bombers lurking around to carry out attacks, and we are calling on all our people to remain vigilant,” Zulum said during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.

The warning comes amid heightened security concerns following recent deadly explosions in Maiduguri earlier this week, which targeted multiple locations including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, a busy roundabout, and areas near the Post Office.

The coordinated attacks reportedly claimed over 20 lives and left more than 100 others injured, sending shockwaves across the state.

Governor Zulum noted that although insurgents—believed to be linked to Boko Haram—are currently under intense military pressure, there are fears they may attempt fresh attacks as a diversion.

Despite the threat, he expressed confidence in the capacity of security forces to prevent further incidents, assuring residents that the situation is under control.

Earlier, the governor visited victims of the bomb blasts upon returning from the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, where he commended the Federal Government for its swift intervention, including the release of funds and deployment of security reinforcements to Borno State.

He also acknowledged the directive ordering Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to strengthen ongoing operations against insurgency in the North-East.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, especially during Eid prayers, and to report any suspicious movements to security agencies immediately.

Zulum further reassured citizens of continued government support for victims and families affected by the attacks, reiterating his administration’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Borno State.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.
