President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched a high-level presidential delegation, led by the National Security Adviser, , to Oyo State following the abduction of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The delegation arrived in Ogbomoso on Sunday before proceeding to the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota, where armed attackers reportedly invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary Schools and abducted about 46 pupils and their teachers.
The visit comes more than two weeks after the incident, amid growing public concern over the safety of schoolchildren and rising insecurity in parts of the country.
According to presidential aide on public communications, Sunday Dare, the team was sent to assess the situation on ground, coordinate rescue efforts, and strengthen ongoing security operations aimed at securing the release of the victims.
The delegation includes senior government and security officials such as the Chief of Staff to the President, Minister of Defence, Inspector General of Police, and Chief of Defence Staff, alongside other top security coordinators.
Authorities say President Tinubu has activated coordinated security operations to track down the abductors and ensure the safe return of all victims, though officials have not disclosed operational details due to security sensitivity.
The attack occurred when heavily armed men stormed schools in the Oriire area, firing shots to cause panic before abducting pupils and teachers and fleeing into nearby forest routes believed to stretch into neighbouring states.
Since the incident, distressing videos have circulated online showing victims pleading for government intervention and calling for negotiations to secure their release.
Government officials have reiterated that efforts are ongoing at the highest level, while urging the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt rescue operations.
