Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a Nigerian Army soldier who had been declared wanted over allegations of illegally supplying military uniforms and other military accoutrements to terrorists and criminal elements.
The suspect, identified as Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, was apprehended on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State, while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the arrest followed credible intelligence received by security operatives.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the soldier allegedly absconded from his unit before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.
The Nigerian Army had earlier declared the soldier wanted over allegations that he was involved in the illegal sale and distribution of military uniforms and other controlled military items to terrorists and criminal groups.
Military authorities said the suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged offences and identify any possible accomplices.
The Army stated that the arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ensuring that any personnel found supporting criminal activities are held accountable in accordance with the law.
Operation HADIN KAI also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the ongoing fight against terrorism and other forms of insecurity.
