A fire outbreak on Saturday disrupted activities at the headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Abuja, as several offices on the fourth floor of the complex were damaged.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the incident was caused by a suspected electrical fault. The fire was reportedly discovered early by on-duty security personnel, who acted swiftly to prevent it from spreading before emergency responders arrived.
Confirming the development in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, FIRS management said the prompt response of staff and security operatives helped contain the situation in its early stages.
According to the agency, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders arrived at the scene without delay and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing further damage to the building.
“No life was lost in the incident,” FIRS assured, adding that while several offices were affected, the damage was limited to the fourth floor.
The agency disclosed that preliminary findings point to an electrical fault as the likely cause of the fire, although a comprehensive investigation is still underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
FIRS also announced that it has begun a review of its internal safety and fire prevention measures, with plans to strengthen existing protocols to forestall similar incidents in the future.
The management expressed appreciation to emergency services, security personnel, and staff members for their swift and coordinated response, noting that their actions were critical in ensuring the safety of workers and minimizing property loss.
