Shock and anger have gripped residents of Ilogbo-Eremi in Badagry area of after the body of an elderly woman was discovered under disturbing circumstances along a roadside bush, sparking widespread suspicion of a violent attack.
Local sources say the victim, believed to be in her late 60s, was found lifeless in the early hours of the morning with visible signs of physical assault. Community members suspect she may have been sexually assaulted before being killed by unknown attackers.
According to residents, the woman had attended a church programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry (also known as Ayo Jesu Church) shortly before the incident. She was reportedly staying with a relative nearby and was on her way home when she went missing.
A resident who spoke anonymously described the moment the body was discovered:
“She was well known in the area. People found her early in the morning in a bush close to the road and immediately raised alarm,” the source said.
Another community member said the victim’s belongings, including her phone, were missing, while personal items were later found near the scene.
Residents further alleged that the location has witnessed repeated criminal incidents, raising concerns about worsening insecurity along the Lagos–Badagry corridor. Many say the area has become increasingly unsafe, especially at night and in the early hours of the morning.
Community leaders have called for urgent police intervention and increased patrols to prevent further attacks, while urging authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The tragic development adds to growing public concern over rising violent crimes in border communities between Lagos and Ogun States, where residents say criminals often operate with little resistance.
Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
