The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, over allegations linking him to the reported assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.

The suspension, which took immediate effect, was announced on Monday, August 10, 2026, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu.

According to the statement, the commissioner was suspended to allow security agencies to conduct an unbiased investigation into allegations connecting him to the reported assault of Mudi at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, in Delta State.

The state government said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation could proceed without interference.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, law and order and the protection of human life, stressing that these principles must be upheld even when individuals within government institutions are involved.

The suspension follows earlier reports that Izeze was arrested and taken to the Ekpan Police Station for questioning over his alleged connection to the incident.

The reported assault occurred on July 26, 2026, when Mudi was allegedly attacked and severely beaten by suspected thugs said to be linked to the commissioner.

Eyewitnesses reportedly claimed that Mudi sustained injuries during the attack and was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Reports later emerged that Izeze had been arrested on July 27 and taken to the Ekpan Police Station in connection with the incident. However, police authorities had not publicly provided detailed information regarding the reported arrest or the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault at the time.

The identities of those allegedly involved in the attack and the extent of any connection between Izeze and the incident remain subject to investigation.

The latest suspension is expected to provide security agencies with the opportunity to investigate the allegations and establish what actually transpired.

The suspension does not constitute a declaration of guilt. The allegations against Izeze remain unproven pending the conclusion of investigations and any subsequent legal proceedings.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to follow the investigation and provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
