A record 230 migrants have reportedly arrived in the United Kingdom after crossing the English Channel from France aboard a single boat, according to reports.
The boat reportedly left the French coast late on Sunday and reached the English coast early Monday before British authorities intercepted it.
The latest crossing surpasses the previous record of 165 migrants, which was recorded just last month.
The development has renewed concerns over the increasingly dangerous methods allegedly being used by people-smuggling gangs to transport migrants across the busy and often treacherous English Channel.
A spokesperson for the UK Home Office condemned the practice, describing the overcrowding of boats used for the crossings as reckless and dangerous.
The spokesperson said smugglers were putting migrants’ lives at risk by cramming increasingly large numbers of people onto vessels that may not be suitable for the journey.
The latest incident comes after another small boat carrying 173 people reportedly capsized in the English Channel earlier this month after its engine caught fire.
Despite the record number of migrants arriving in a single crossing, the UK government said overall small-boat arrivals have declined this year.
Provisional figures indicate that 14,819 people had crossed the English Channel from France so far in 2026, representing a 43 percent decline compared with the same period last year.
The British government said it was working with French authorities to strengthen efforts to prevent dangerous Channel crossings, including increasing personnel presence along French beaches.
Authorities continue to warn migrants about the potentially fatal risks associated with attempting to cross the English Channel in overcrowded and unseaworthy boats.
