Armed bandits have abducted a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, following a midnight attack on his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the judge’s home along Zogirma Road at about 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto State.
Sources said the attackers fired several gunshots into the air before forcefully taking the judge away. No member of his household was reportedly injured during the operation.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, stating that Justice Bunza was abducted from his residence around midnight.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, has deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the abductors and secure the judge’s safe rescue.
According to the police, security personnel are combing forests and other suspected hideouts as part of ongoing efforts to locate the victim and apprehend those responsible.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court described the abduction as a disturbing development and confirmed that judicial authorities are working closely with security agencies to ensure the judge’s release.
As of the time of this report, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, following a series of recent kidnappings targeting public officials and prominent individuals.
