The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been formally urged to investigate a House of Representatives aspirant, Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola, over allegations bordering on discrepancies in his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
In a petition dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, legal practitioner Daisi Onetufo alleged that Daramola obtained his NYSC Certificate of Exemption through what he described as “material misrepresentation.”
The petition, also copied to the APC Screening Committee in Ondo State and the Inspector-General of Police, claims that inconsistencies exist in the academic and service records presented by the aspirant.
According to Onetufo, the exemption certificate reportedly aligns with a postgraduate qualification rather than the candidate’s first university degree, which is the standard benchmark for NYSC eligibility under Nigerian law.
He further argued that under the provisions of the Act, exemption is strictly tied to an individual’s first degree and age at graduation. He cited Section 2(2)(a) of the Act, which outlines conditions under which graduates may be exempted from national service.
The petitioner also raised concerns about alleged inconsistencies in Daramola’s academic timeline, including the absence of a clearly stated initial qualifying degree and discrepancies in the course of study reflected on the exemption certificate.
Onetufo maintained that these issues, if confirmed, could render the certificate “legally defective” and potentially affect eligibility for elective office.
However, Dr. Daramola has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and misleading. He insisted that all his academic and professional records are verifiable and publicly accessible.
“I don’t see them as allegations. These are fabricated claims. My certificates and graduation records are all available for verification,” he said, adding that critics could easily confirm details through official channels.
The APC is yet to issue an official response to the petition as of the time of filing this report.
The development adds to ongoing scrutiny of political aspirants as parties intensify screening processes ahead of internal primaries and future elections.
