Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, has declared that Nigeria has firmly established itself as a global force, praising its rapid transformation, youthful population, and growing international influence.
The King made this remark during a state banquet at Windsor Castle held in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
Reflecting on his previous visits to Nigeria, the monarch noted the country’s remarkable progress, stating that its growth is no longer just visible—but undeniable.
“Nigeria hasn’t merely changed. It has arrived,” King Charles declared.
Describing Nigeria as a rising global power, he highlighted its population of over 230 million people, noting that a large percentage of its citizens are young, energetic, and driven to shape the future.
The monarch also praised Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, saying they play vital roles across sectors including healthcare, law, technology, business, and the arts.
He further acknowledged Nigeria’s cultural influence, pointing to the global dominance of Afrobeats music and the expanding reach of Nollywood, both of which continue to shape global entertainment.
On economic ties, King Charles emphasized that both nations are strengthening bilateral relations, with increasing investments and trade partnerships benefiting both sides.
He described the UK–Nigeria relationship as one built on mutual respect and shared values, calling it “a partnership of equals” that continues to deliver economic and security benefits.
While acknowledging historical tensions between both nations, the monarch stressed the importance of learning from the past to build a stronger future together.
He also reaffirmed support for Nigeria in tackling current challenges, including insecurity and humanitarian concerns in the northern region, highlighting the need for strengthened security responses and social support systems.
Despite ongoing issues such as insecurity, inflation, and infrastructure deficits, King Charles expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, describing it as an economic powerhouse and an influential voice on the global stage.
Earlier, President Tinubu also expressed optimism about the nation’s trajectory, reaffirming Nigeria’s determination to overcome its challenges and achieve its full potential.
