The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to the recent Court of Appeal ruling concerning the party’s leadership crisis, reaffirming that Senator David Mark remains the National Chairman.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Saturday, the ADC clarified that the Court of Appeal did not decide on the substantive dispute over the party’s leadership. Abdullahi said, “The case challenging the emergence of Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary is still pending before the Federal High Court and has not yet been heard or decided on its merits.”
The party emphasized that the appellate court ruling was procedural, ordering only that the status quo be maintained until the Federal High Court delivers a decision on the main case. No relief was granted, and the leadership structure of the ADC remains unchanged.
Earlier, the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed Senator David Mark’s appeal, which sought to challenge the September 4, 2025, ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court. The appeal was found incompetent because it raised issues not reflected in the trial court’s ruling, with the appellate panel led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam stressing that the appeal relied on an enrolled order, rather than the judge’s authentic ruling.
The ADC reassured its members to remain calm and united, noting, “Members are advised not to panic or be misled by misinterpretations of the judgment. The ADC remains united and focused despite the antics of anti-democratic forces bent on imposing a one-party rule on Nigeria.”
The ongoing leadership dispute continues to be monitored closely, with the Federal High Court expected to make a substantive ruling in the coming months.
