Lagos, December 17, 2025 – At least two people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Dangote-branded SINO truck, three tricycles, and a mini-bus (popularly called Korope) along Iyana Meiran, inward Meiran Road, near a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Lagos State.
The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, caused widespread panic in the area as emergency responders rushed to the scene. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), police officers were immediately deployed, while safety cones were used to cordon off the affected section and manage the disrupted traffic flow.
“The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the instant death of two persons,” a LASTMA spokesperson said. Several others sustained injuries of varying degrees and were promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. As of the time of reporting, the identities of the deceased have not been officially released.
Traffic along the Iyana Meiran axis was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and restore normal movement.
Road accidents involving heavy trucks continue to be a major safety concern on Nigerian roads. Trucks branded under prominent companies, including Dangote, frequently appear in accident reports, highlighting systemic challenges in road transport safety, vehicle maintenance, and driver training.
Notably, in August 2025, a crash near Auchi, Edo State, involved a truck with Dangote Cement Plc markings. Investigations revealed that while a Dangote truck was present at the scene, the fatal collision was triggered by a third-party truck losing control, which subsequently led the Dangote vehicle to catch fire.
There have been multiple instances where trucks bearing well-known corporate logos were found to be operated by independent logistics firms without authorization. In Enugu State, authorities confirmed a similar case, prompting Dangote to warn the public against unauthorized use of its branding.
These recurring accidents have intensified calls for stricter enforcement of vehicle identification regulations, improved road safety measures, and comprehensive driver training programs across Nigeria.
