Fresh fear has spread across farming communities in Kebbi State following the reported abduction of several farmers by suspected armed bandits in separate attacks on farmlands in Wasagu and Dadin Kowa, located in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
According to reports, the attacks occurred on Wednesday and Thursday when heavily armed gunmen stormed the farms while the victims were carrying out their daily farming activities.
The assailants reportedly seized several farmers and took them to unknown locations. As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of those abducted had not been officially confirmed, while their whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
The latest incidents have heightened anxiety among residents, who say repeated attacks on farmers continue to threaten lives, disrupt agricultural activities, and endanger food production in the area.
Community members have renewed calls on security agencies to strengthen operations across rural communities and farmlands to curb the activities of armed bandits and ensure the safe rescue of those abducted.
Residents also warned that persistent attacks on farmers during the planting season could have serious economic and food security implications if urgent action is not taken.
As of press time, security authorities in Kebbi State had not issued an official statement regarding the reported abductions. Efforts to obtain comments from the Kebbi State Police Command were unsuccessful.
Investigations into the incidents are expected to continue as residents await updates on the fate of the abducted farmers.
