The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly spent ₦1.74 billion on the purchase of 10 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado V6 (2024 model) vehicles in a single day, according to payment records published on the government expenditure tracking platform, Govspend.
The records indicate that on May 9, 2026, two separate payments of ₦868.7 million each were made to Mujaf Automobile Nigeria Ltd for the supply of five Toyota Land Cruiser Prado V6 vehicles per transaction, bringing the total expenditure to approximately ₦1.74 billion.
Based on the payment records, each vehicle cost an average of ₦173.7 million.
The procurement was made under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who assumed office earlier this year following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The expenditure has sparked public interest amid ongoing concerns over government spending and the need for improved funding of security operations across the country.
The report also recalled previous spending by the Nigeria Police Force on operational supplies, including food items purchased for personnel deployed on security surveillance duties.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not publicly responded to concerns surrounding the reported vehicle procurement.
