LAGOS, NIGERIA — At least eight persons, including a baby girl, have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a storey building near Alakija Bus Stop along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, Lagos.
Emergency management officials disclosed that 26 victims have so far been rescued from the rubble, while fears remain that several others, including shop owners and occupants, may still be trapped beneath the debris.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing, with emergency responders working around the clock to locate survivors and recover victims from the collapsed structure.
Authorities said those rescued have been transferred to medical teams and nearby hospitals for urgent treatment and evaluation.
Heavy-duty equipment, including excavators and other specialized rescue machinery, has also been deployed to accelerate debris removal and improve access to areas where trapped victims may still be located.
Emergency agencies have appealed to residents and bystanders to remain calm and keep away from the disaster scene to enable rescue personnel carry out their operations without obstruction.
The cause of the building collapse has not yet been officially determined, as authorities continue investigations into the incident.
