BREAKING: Seven Killed As Terrorists Defy Security Restrictions, Attack Katsina Community

June 25, 2026

KATSINA, NIGERIA — At least seven residents have been killed in a fresh terrorist attack on communities along the Matazu/Musawa axis of Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite ongoing government-imposed security restrictions aimed at curbing violent attacks.

According to local sources, the attack occurred on Thursday as armed assailants suspected to be bandits stormed the area and unleashed violence on residents.

The victims were reportedly buried in accordance with Islamic rites shortly after the attack.

The latest bloodshed comes despite strict measures introduced by the Katsina State Government, including the suspension of telecommunications services, restrictions on motorcycle movement, and a ban on the sale of petrol in jerrycans in some affected communities.

Authorities had implemented the measures to disrupt the operations and mobility of criminal groups operating across the region.

However, residents say the restrictions have failed to stop attacks, with armed groups continuing to carry out deadly raids across communities within the Matazu/Musawa corridor.

The incident has renewed concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Katsina State, where residents continue to face repeated attacks, killings and displacement despite ongoing security efforts.

The attack also comes amid reports of increasing hardship among displaced families across the state.

In a separate incident, a displaced farmer identified as Aliyu Hassan recently recounted how suspected bandits allegedly poured petrol on him and set him ablaze while he was working on his farm in Batagarawa Local Government Area.

The survivor said he narrowly escaped death after rolling repeatedly on the ground until the flames were extinguished. He further revealed that he and his family remain displaced due to persistent attacks in their community.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest killings in Matazu as concerns grow over the continued threat posed by armed groups in the region.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
