A son of late Nollywood comic actor , popularly known as Mr Ibu, has publicly accused his stepmother, Stella Maris Okafor, of taking control of the actor’s assets and excluding other children from benefiting from the estate.
In a statement shared online, Okafor Somotochukwu, who identified himself as the third son and fourth child of the late actor, said he decided to speak out after watching a video in which his stepmother allegedly appealed for financial assistance while, according to him, presenting her children as the only children of Mr Ibu.
Somotochukwu described the claim as false, insisting that the late actor had several children.
According to him, following Mr Ibu’s death, properties and assets intended for all of the actor’s children were allegedly taken over by Stella and her children.
He further alleged that a Lagos property belonging to the late actor was sold for ₦60 million without other children being consulted or included in the proceeds.
The young man also claimed that another property in Enugu was sold for approximately ₦17 million, but that he only received ₦40,000, which he said was presented to him as a gift.
He additionally alleged that a property in Asaba was sold for ₦11 million without any portion being given to him.
Somotochukwu further claimed that funds remained in the bank, including donations reportedly contributed by Nigerians during Mr Ibu’s illness, but alleged that he had not benefited from any of the assets.
Expressing his frustration, he said he faced financial difficulties after his father’s death and was unable to clear his school fees and access his WAEC results.
“I am speaking out because I want people to hear my side of the story,” he stated, adding that he believes his late father would not have wanted him to remain silent.
As of the time of filing this report, Stella Maris Okafor has not publicly responded to the allegations.
