Voting has officially commenced in the Ekiti State governorship election, with electoral activities beginning at Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s polling unit in Ikogosi, Ekiti West Local Government Area.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived early at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, where accreditation and voting started at approximately 8:30 a.m. under peaceful conditions.
However, observers at the polling centre noted that only the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had a party agent present as voting commenced. Representatives of other political parties contesting the election were not seen at the polling unit at the time of reporting.
The development has raised questions about the level of mobilisation and election-day presence of opposition parties in the area, despite a competitive race involving several political parties.
According to information gathered at the polling unit, a total of 668 registered voters are expected to participate in the voting process.
Residents arrived steadily to cast their ballots as security personnel and election officials maintained order around the polling centre. No incidents of violence or disruption were reported.
Across Ekiti State, voting is underway in all 16 local government areas and 177 wards, with more than one million registered voters expected to determine who will govern the state for the next four years.
Governor Oyebanji, the candidate of the APC, is seeking a second term in office against candidates from various opposition parties, including the ADC, Labour Party, PRP, YPP, ZLP and others.
Election observers and stakeholders continue to monitor the process closely, with attention focused on voter turnout, transparency, and compliance with electoral guidelines.
