The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning to voters, political parties, and election stakeholders in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election, declaring that anyone involved in vote buying, vote selling, ballot box snatching, violence, intimidation, or any act capable of disrupting the electoral process will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
According to the police, electoral offences threaten the foundation of democracy and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Security agencies have been placed on high alert across the state to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible election.
In a related development, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were deployed to monitor activities at the polling unit of incumbent Governor, , amid growing concerns over alleged vote-buying during the election.
The anti-graft operatives arrived at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, Ikogosi, in Ekiti West Local Government Area shortly after voting commenced. Their presence forms part of wider efforts by authorities to curb electoral malpractice and safeguard the integrity of the voting process.
Despite heightened monitoring, voting reportedly proceeded peacefully at the polling centre, with no immediate reports of arrests or disruptions.
The Ekiti governorship election is taking place across all 16 local government areas of the state, with security agencies, election observers, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closely monitoring proceedings to ensure compliance with electoral laws.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to a transparent and credible election, warning that anyone found violating electoral regulations will face the full weight of the law.
