The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has expressed concern over delays and alleged attempts to obstruct justice in the ongoing prosecution of suspects linked to the killings of two residents of Ajiran Community in Lagos State.
The rights group made its position known during a press conference held on Monday, June 8, 2026, warning that procedural delays and external interference could undermine public confidence in the justice system.
According to CHSR President, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, the matter concerns the deaths of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami, who was killed in April 2023, and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, who lost his life in August 2024.
The organisation described the case as more than a routine criminal prosecution, stating that it has become a test of the effectiveness, credibility, and integrity of Nigeria’s justice system.
CHSR recalled that the immediate past Lagos State Commissioner of Police, now Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, had earlier disclosed details of arrests made in connection with the killings following renewed investigations.
The group noted that two suspects were arrested after investigators reportedly uncovered fresh evidence relating to the murders. It further referenced allegations that some suspects had made confessional statements during police investigations.
However, CHSR expressed concern that the pace of prosecution has been slow, warning that prolonged delays could create opportunities for legal complications and potentially affect the pursuit of justice.
The organisation also alleged that certain individuals and groups have been attempting to influence public opinion and interfere with ongoing legal processes surrounding the case.
Additionally, CHSR raised concerns about security-related incidents that reportedly occurred during a recent court proceeding, alleging unequal treatment of parties connected to the matter.
The group called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, to ensure that all suspects are promptly arraigned before a competent court and that the judicial process proceeds without interference.
CHSR also urged security agencies to strengthen security within Ajiran Community, citing growing tensions among residents as the case continues.
As of the time of this report, law enforcement authorities had not publicly responded to the concerns raised by the organisation.
