Fresh geopolitical tensions have erupted in the Middle East as the accused of launching a drone attack on an oil tanker linked to its national energy operations.
In a strongly worded statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs alleged that two drones targeted a vessel affiliated with the (ADNOC) while transiting the strategic .
Although no casualties were reported, the incident has heightened concerns over security in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
The UAE condemned the attack as a violation of international law, warning that such actions threaten global trade and maritime stability. Authorities described the incident as a direct challenge to freedom of navigation, referencing international resolutions that protect commercial shipping routes.
In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, the UAE accused elements of Iran’s (IRGC) of engaging in destabilising activities, including targeting commercial vessels and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic pressure.
The Gulf nation called for immediate de-escalation, urging Iran to halt what it described as “unprovoked attacks” and ensure the safety of international shipping lanes.
The development comes amid rising military tensions in the region. Iranian forces reportedly warned that United States vessels could face attacks if they enter the Strait, following remarks by about assisting navigation in the area.
Meanwhile, Iranian state-linked media claimed a U.S. warship in the Strait had been struck by missiles, though the U.S. Central Command has denied any such incident.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes daily, making any disruption a matter of global economic concern.
