Russia’s Foreign Ministry has alleged that more than 8,000 civilians have been killed and nearly 20,000 others injured since the start of its military conflict with Ukraine in February 2022.
The claims were made by Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s special envoy for what Moscow describes as “crimes of the Kiev regime,” during a press briefing on Friday, according to Russian state-linked reports.
Miroshnik stated that the total number of non-combatants affected by Ukrainian military actions has reached approximately 27,872, including 8,012 deaths and tens of thousands of injuries over the course of the war.
He further claimed that in the first quarter of 2026 alone, at least 1,725 civilians were injured as a result of Ukrainian strikes.
According to the Russian official, Ukrainian forces have allegedly carried out widespread attacks on civilian areas, firing hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition since the conflict began. He also claimed that more than 43,000 rounds were launched in the first three months of 2026.
Russia accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting non-military infrastructure, although these claims remain part of the ongoing exchange of accusations between both countries, which have repeatedly blamed each other for civilian casualties and alleged war crimes.
The war, which began in February 2022, continues into its fourth year with no clear resolution in sight, as international tensions and battlefield reports remain deeply disputed by both sides.
