Tragedy on the Road: Five Travellers Electrocuted as Truck Hits High-Tension Cable

At least five passengers have lost their lives in a tragic electrocution incident in after a truck conveying travellers came in contact with a high-tension power line.

The fatal accident occurred early Monday morning in Essa village, located in Katcha Local Government Area. According to eyewitness accounts, the truck—carrying both passengers and goods—was heading toward from when it struck a dangerously low-hanging cable.

A local resident revealed that the driver was attempting to navigate bad portions of the road when the vehicle accidentally hit the high-voltage wire. The impact led to instant electrocution of several occupants, while others suffered severe burns.

“This is not the first time this has happened,” the resident said, noting that the power line had been loose for some time, posing a constant threat to motorists—especially heavy-duty vehicles.

The bodies of the deceased and injured victims were later evacuated to a nearby police station in Badeggi, while authorities reportedly used mobile phones found on the victims to reach their families.

Residents of the community have called on the government to urgently fix the deteriorating road and repair the faulty power infrastructure to prevent further loss of lives.

As of the time of this report, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps are yet to release a full statement on the incident.
