Tension and fear have gripped Idofin Odo Ashe community in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, as residents staged a massive protest over persistent killings, kidnappings, and attacks by suspected terrorists.
The demonstration, which drew elderly women, youths, and other concerned citizens, reflects growing frustration over what locals describe as months of unchecked violence and government inaction.
Carrying placards with messages such as “We Sleep In Fear Everyday” and “Idofin Odo Ashe Is Bleeding, Come To Our Aid,” protesters marched through the community, calling on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene before the situation spirals completely out of control.
According to residents, the security crisis has lingered for over eight months, with kidnappers and armed groups reportedly operating freely and attacking people almost daily. Many families have already fled their homes, while others say they are preparing to leave if nothing is done.
One elderly woman, visibly distressed, appealed directly to authorities, saying the once-peaceful community is gradually becoming deserted.
“Our community is dying. People are leaving because of constant killings. We are living in fear every day,” she lamented.
Another protester stressed that the attacks have become routine, leaving residents helpless and vulnerable.
“For months now, kidnappers have been striking almost every day. They kill and abduct people without resistance. This situation is unbearable,” he said, urging Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take swift action.
Residents warned that if urgent security measures are not deployed, Idofin Odo Ashe and neighbouring communities could soon be completely abandoned.
They are now calling on both state and federal authorities to immediately deploy adequate security personnel to restore peace and protect lives and property.
The protest highlights a deepening security concern in rural communities, where citizens say they feel increasingly neglected and exposed to violent attacks.
