Russia has reportedly become the first country to send humanitarian aid to Iran amid the ongoing Middle-East conflict involving the United States and Israel. The announcement was made via the official X account of the Russian Embassy in Kenya.
According to the statement, an Il‑76 aircraft delivered over 13 tons of medical supplies to Azerbaijan, which will then transfer the aid to Iranian authorities. The shipment is described as “first aid & medical supplies” intended for the Iranian people.
This humanitarian gesture follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s congratulations to Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, in which he reaffirmed Moscow’s support and strategic partnership with Tehran. Putin expressed confidence in Khamenei’s leadership, praising his ability to navigate Iran through the current regional challenges.
The Kremlin highlighted that Russia will continue to align with Iran across political, economic, and security fronts, reinforcing their growing cooperation on international issues.
The delivery also comes after the United States eased certain sanctions on Iran’s oil supply, citing the need to stabilize global crude oil prices amid the ongoing Middle East war.
This development marks a significant step in Russia’s engagement in the conflict, emphasizing humanitarian support while maintaining its strategic alliance with Tehran.
