In a significant boost to Nigeria’s judiciary, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to swear in Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court this Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court Complex in Abuja. Justice Oyewole’s appointment comes in the wake of recent vacancies created by the retirement of several justices who reached the mandatory retirement age.
Before his elevation to the apex court, Justice Oyewole served with distinction as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and presided over its Enugu Division. His extensive legal expertise, integrity, and judicial experience are expected to strengthen the Supreme Court’s capacity to deliver fair and timely judgments.
In a statement on Sunday, Dr Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court, emphasized that Justice Oyewole’s inauguration is a step toward rejuvenating the judiciary and enhancing the delivery of justice in line with the highest standards of impartiality and competence.
Dr Akande also reminded invited guests to strictly adhere to the court’s security protocols and established procedures.
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains steadfast in upholding justice, fairness, and judicial independence for all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
