A major security crackdown has rocked Ozalla community in Enugu State after police operatives raided suspected criminal hideouts, leading to the arrest of 15 suspects and the recovery of illegal weapons and drugs.
The early-morning operation, carried out on February 16, 2026, targeted notorious crime hotspots around the Four Corners axis of Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
According to police sources, the raid was executed by the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad following credible intelligence linking the area to rising criminal activities.
Authorities confirmed that nine men and six women were apprehended during the operation.
During the search, officers recovered two polythene bags containing dried substances suspected to be Indian hemp. A further sweep of the hideout led to the discovery of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge, raising serious concerns about armed criminal activity in the area.
Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe disclosed that all suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their involvement in criminal acts.
He stated that individuals found innocent will be released, while those linked to crimes will face full investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered intensified operations across the state to dismantle criminal networks and restore public safety.
He also urged residents to support law enforcement by providing timely and reliable information, stressing that community cooperation remains key to winning the fight against crime.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, warning criminal elements that security agencies are fully prepared to clamp down on illegal activities across the state.
