A fresh political storm has erupted in Osun State as the (APC) has accused Governor of mismanaging over ₦1 trillion within three years in office, alleging poor investment in critical sectors—especially agriculture.
The allegations were made in Osogbo by Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, spokesperson for the APC Governorship Campaign Council, who delivered a scathing assessment of the current administration’s performance.
According to Omowaiye, despite what he described as unprecedented revenue inflows into Osun State, there has been little to show in terms of tangible development across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic growth.
He specifically criticized what he termed “reckless spending,” claiming that as much as ₦92 billion was allegedly spent on “wining and dining,” a figure he said reflects misplaced priorities at a time when citizens are grappling with serious socio-economic challenges.
“A government that commits such huge resources to frivolities while neglecting productive sectors like agriculture is both irresponsible and insensitive,” Omowaiye stated.
The APC further accused the Adeleke administration of lacking transparency, particularly over an alleged ₦57.6 billion debt relief reportedly granted by the Federal Government but not publicly disclosed.
In contrast, Omowaiye presented the APC governorship candidate, , as a credible alternative, promising a governance model focused on agriculture, education, healthcare, transportation, and energy development.
He noted that recent constitutional backing for state-level electricity generation presents an opportunity for Osun to boost power supply and industrial growth—an area he claimed Oyebamiji plans to prioritize.
The APC also outlined proposed welfare initiatives under its candidate, including the revival of car loan schemes for civil servants, reintroduction of food support programmes, and expanded housing and mortgage opportunities for workers.
Omowaiye used the opportunity to address lingering controversies, clarifying that the controversial half-salary policy in the state predated Oyebamiji’s tenure as Commissioner of Finance, and was later reversed under the administration of former governor .
He also dismissed claims linking previous administrations to payroll fraud, stating that the audit in question was commissioned in 2023 by the current government.
On education, he credited the establishment of the University of Ilesa to the previous APC administration, insisting that the groundwork was fully completed before the transition of power.
The APC further refuted claims that local government funds were being withheld by the Federal Government, asserting that allocations are being duly released to elected council officials.
On security matters, the party questioned the Adeleke administration’s use of ₦15 billion in security votes while allegedly deflecting responsibility to the Federal Government.
The opposition party concluded by calling on the Osun State government to provide full disclosure on its finances and urged the media to maintain professionalism in reporting.
As political tensions rise ahead of future elections, the accusations signal what could become a prolonged battle over performance, transparency, and governance in Osun State.
