The political atmosphere in Kogi Central is heating up as has officially declared her intention to seek a second term in the Senate, setting the stage for a fierce electoral battle with former Kogi State Governor, .
Akpoti-Uduaghan made her declaration during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting of the (PDP) in Kogi Central, where party leaders, grassroots mobilizers, and supporters gathered to strategize ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the gathering, the senator revealed that her decision followed extensive consultations with constituents across the five local government areas in the district, as well as encouragement from her family.
“After due consultations and encouragement, I have accepted the call to re-contest for a second term as your senator,” she stated.
In a parallel political move, Yahaya Bello has also declared his ambition to represent Kogi Central in the Senate. The former governor made this known during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he engaged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and key stakeholders—signaling what analysts describe as an impending high-stakes contest.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s re-election bid comes amid growing endorsements from party loyalists and community leaders, reflecting strong grassroots backing that has steadily built over recent months.
She used the occasion to call for unity within the PDP, urging members to put aside differences and work collectively toward victory in the upcoming elections.
“This is the time to reconcile and bring everyone together for the success of our party and the progress of our people,” she emphasized.
Also speaking at the event, PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Hon. Anthony Akuvada, praised the senator’s leadership style, describing her as a transformational figure whose inclusive approach and accessibility have strengthened public trust and engagement across the district.
With both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Bello now in the race, political observers say Kogi Central is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched senatorial contests in Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
