Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin has effectively already begun what could escalate into World War III, describing Ukraine as the frontline defense against a potential global conflict.
Speaking on X on Monday, Zelensky framed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war not as a regional dispute, but as a clash with far-reaching international consequences.
“There are different views on World War III. I believe Putin has already started it,” he declared, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Zelensky questioned the international community: “How much territory can he seize, and how do we stop him?” He stressed that the fight goes beyond merely preventing a Russian military victory, pointing to Moscow’s broader ideological ambitions.
“Russia wants to impose its own world and decide for people how they should live, regardless of their choices,” he said. “That is why I have long believed that Putin has already started this war.”
Highlighting Ukraine’s role, Zelensky added: “Today, we are the outpost stopping Putin from turning this into a full-scale, global World War III.”
His comments come amid continued heavy fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with world powers watching closely amid fears of further escalation. Despite repeated diplomatic efforts, a resolution to end the conflict remains elusive, leaving millions affected by the devastation.
