The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has issued a strong warning over the fast-rising military confrontation involving United States, Israel, and Iran, calling for an immediate ceasefire and urgent diplomatic negotiations.

In a statement released Saturday via his official social media account, Guterres condemned the ongoing military actions and retaliation across the Middle East, stressing that the situation poses a serious threat to international peace and civilian safety.

He warned that continued hostilities could spiral into a broader regional war, further destabilising an already fragile region and putting millions of lives at risk.

“I condemn today’s military escalation in the Middle East,” Guterres stated, adding that the use of force and retaliatory strikes undermine global peace and security.

The UN chief reminded all nations involved of their obligations under international law, particularly the UN Charter, which prohibits threats or use of force against the sovereignty or political independence of any state.

Guterres called for an immediate halt to military operations, urging all parties to de-escalate tensions and return to the negotiating table without delay.

He emphasized that diplomacy remains the only sustainable solution to international conflicts, reiterating that peaceful dialogue in line with international law is essential for maintaining global stability.

The UN’s intervention comes amid growing global concern that the confrontation could expand into a wider regional conflict if urgent steps toward de-escalation are not taken.

SUNTV Global Channel reports that international leaders and organisations are increasingly calling for restraint as fears mount over the potential humanitarian and geopolitical consequences of the escalating crisis.
